Band-Aid: Episode 2

Post concert week and although I am a little tired still I am so happy I made it to see these artists! I previously posted about Monday’s show at House of Blues with Kodaline, and here is a recap from the rest of the week! I can honestly say everyone put on such a good show ūüôā Despite a minor mishap on Thursday night everything went well!

Tuesday: Alt-J and San Fermin at SDSU Open Air Theatre

This was my first time seeing Alt-J and I had high expectations coming in from what I’ve heard from other people who have seen them. First off lets talk about the venue. I’ve never been to the Open Air Theatre {wtf, I know} but I’m kind of obsessed now. I loved being outside and even though our seats were close to the top we still could see really well! Also, it was like a big party there, everyone was dancing and having fun. The atmosphere was great! A special treat was the kid in front of us providing comedic relief all night. I don’t even think his seat was supposed to be there, but between his dancing and groping his friends inappropriately, he was pretty hilarious.

I never heard of San Fermin before and honestly I probably won’t be running out to go see them again. They had an interesting sound and the male lead singer’s voice was unique, but the female lead singer kind of ruined it for me. That’s just my opinion but she didn’t keep up with every one else’s sound live.

Alt-J, however, was amaaaaazing. Their lighting was so on point and they sounded just perfect live. 10/10 would go see again.

Outfit: Since it was outdoors I wasn’t sure about the temperature so I wore a black t-shirt and printed bell bottom pants with wedges

Wednesday: Florence & the Machine at Viejas ArenaIMG_5329

FLORENCE. Omg. She’s perfect and the best concert I’ve ever been to, ever. Her voice is just as powerful, if not more, in person and watching her run all over the stage was unreal. Her energy was infectious, seriously if she is ever in concert near you RUN to get a ticket. I can’t even describe more. She was great, and all you see is this flash of red hair running all over the stage singing like a beast in her trendy little white bell bottoms¬†{exactly what I imagined her wearing!!}. At one point she ran up the aisle-way and jumped ito the crowd. It was so awesome how she connected with her fans and the audience, such a true performer and artist! GO SEE HER!!

Outfit: Kimono, velvet shorts and black booties

Thursday: Gorgon City at House of Blues

I wasn’t initially planning on this one but when one of my friends invited me to come with her I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve been loving their music lately so I was super stoked to go. Such a close tie for #2 with Alt-J on my favorites list. Gorgon City had so much energy live and they had a male and female singer come out with them, which was super exciting. Overall I loved them! The only mishap {which SUCKED bc we had to miss a little of the show} was when a drunk couple next to us tried to start a fight with my friends and we had to settle things with security. Seriously people lets make this a PSA, if you’re a dude at a club please don’t push a group of girls and elbow them. This guy’s girlfriend was irritated we were around {??? drunk people don’t make sense} so he decided to push us and try to make us leave the dance floor. Stuff like that is why I don’t like being sober around drunk people. I’m seriously still confused on this whole ordeal, but I’m just happy security removed the crazy people from the area and we were able to continue watching the show without any more disturbances!

Overall my week of music is done and I made so many great memories!

Highlights: FLORENCE, dancing with friends to live music, discovering new songs I’m obsessed with

Lowlights: Crazy couple at HOB, how hot/sweaty it was, smelly drunk people

Go get out there and experience new things!

Band-Aid: Episode 1

So, for whatever reason the universe aligned and this week is full of AMAZING artists coming to San Diego.¬†Since I am going to see so many great acts and music this week I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share with everyone my thoughts on everything. First up was Monday night at the House of Blues. Kodaline headlined with Good Old War opening up. Overall it was a pretty good concert! If you haven’t heard of Kodaline before I highly¬†recommend looking them up and listening to a few songs! {favorite songs: All I Want, High Hopes & Love Like This}.

Since it was a Monday night I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect crowd-wise. Luckily we got there early and had a good spot on the side of the stage where we could see. Since it was a Monday night it never got too crowded, but there was a fair about of teenage girls people there. I say this jokingly, but not really. Demographic there was definitely girls 16-20. They provided some great fashion inspiration, though! Everyone was dressed so cute for a concert it was almost like a little fashion show. Obviously here is where I mention my outfit. Concert-wear is always tricky, but since it was still 87 degrees outside I wore jeans and a white tank to be comfy and hide if I became a sweaty betty {y’all know how it is}.

Honestly I had never heard of the opening band Good Old War before, but they ended up being awesome! Its only two guys and the amount of sound they can produce is amazing. I loved all their songs and they are both great performers, I really felt like they connected with the audience. The main singer is so painfully awkward that he comes full circle and is pretty entertaining. 10/10 for them.

Unfortunately there was a reeeaaally long break between the openers and Kodaline, which really brought the energy down {especially on a Monday}. Not going to lie I started to space out a little in the beginning of their performance, but once they started playing my favorite songs I came back. The real highlight was their encore. They came out and did an acoustic performance including the audience and interacting more. Overall they impressed me! But, I mean can you really go wrong with cute guys from Ireland singing cute love songs? {No, no you can’t}.

Highlights: Kodaline’s Encore; The guys from Good Old War in general

Lowlights: Long pauses; low energy in beginning; this weird smell that was ever-present {was it someone or something}.

Where I Went: Grand Canyon

Recently I took a trip up to the Grand Canyon and Sedona with my family. It has been something my Dad has been wanting to do since I was in¬†High School, so I had a feeling that¬†with my being in College in Arizona it was only a matter of time until we ended up here. I’m going to be honest here for a second because I was¬†soooo¬†not even the smallest bit interested in seeing the Grand Canyon. Because like, whats so special about a huge hole in the ground? And lets be real I’m not the type to do any of this crazy two day hiking and river-rafting bs. I am¬†just fine with a little stroll around and some sight seeing with my feet on the ground. Well, apparently thats something you can do at the Grand Canyon and it is totally amazing to see, even from the top of the ridge.

Unfortunately the weather sucked was not ideal and there was a little bit of rain {it was pouring} BUT we were lucky and had around 30 minutes of just clouds so we were able to go explore a bit. I was actually really impressed with the views and how beautiful it was! The pictures I was able to take did not even do it justice, but i mean it is¬†one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World for a reason…right.

Oh, and apparently people are absofreaking-lutley insane and like to climb to the edge of the rocks off the path and take pictures. WTF. These people seriously have a death wish or something. I wouldn’t even get close enough to snap a pic of below, so use your imaginations people, because it was pretty far down. Oh yah, and that’s totally a picture of the crazy lady who crawled out past the hand rails. She was later seen taking pictures on the train tracks {i’m not kidding}. It literally makes me cringe.

Of course I couldn’t let her show me up…KIDDING. This little picture is all¬†an optical illusion of me being high up on a rock {might have staged this to look a lot cooler than it was}. But of course I had to do something artsy and fun¬†when I’m at one the the Seven Wonders…right.¬†Also note my really stylish outfit. Silly me, I was expecting it to be hot outside at the GRAND CANYON, so my super trendy “Canyon Fit” was put on hold because it was literally 40 degrees out and I only brought that one jacket.. sigh.

Me and the Pops being all touristy safely away from any direct edges.

Here are just a few more pictures I took of the Canyon. Isn’t it spectacular? I wish my pictures did it justice, because it was actually one of the most beautiful things i’ve seen. I’m thinking seeing the Seven Wonders of the World might just have jumped¬†to the top of my Bucket List.

After our Grand Canyon adventure, we decided to stop in Sedona and see what that was all about. And WOW, what a beautiful place! I can totally see why there are a bunch of spas and retreats. It is just something in the air there that is relaxing and zen. ALSO, we couldn’t stop joking about how we felt like we were in a real life cars land!!¬†{we’re lame, I know.}

Of course I could’t take a normal picture, but forget about us and just look at that sky behind us! Doesn’t it look like a painting?

The most exciting part was that it was warm enough for me to break out at least one cute outfit {yay}.

Here I am wearing: Top nasty gal Shorts bp/nordstrom Sunglasses ray-bans Jewelry vintage rings/forever21 bracelet

Walking this little trail around the Red Rock park was just amazing! I wanted to live here and frolic outside forever {who would have thought}.

Seriously, everyone go out there and travel outside of your comfort zone. I was not all that excited about a road trip in the car {barf}, but my feelings have been changed! You don’t need a first class ticket out of the United States to travel and see beautiful places, they’re are all around you. It doesn’t even take much, we did this whole trip over a weekend, so there is not an excuse people!

Go get inspired by the beautiful places that surround us every day.
